Sonata No. 4 in E flat major, Op 7

Experience Classical

Available for over a year

This sonata, written in 1797, marked an important point in Beethoven’s piano sonata output in that it looks both forward and back in different styles. There are passages, such as the playful last movement, which owe much to the earlier Mozart and Haydn. There are other parts, including the far more adventurous 1st movement, which indicate Beethoven’s own work later on. Composer: Ludwig van Beethoven Performer: Benjamin Grosvenor (Piano) Recording date: 17 June 2013 Date of broadcast: 17 June 2013
