Saunders' 'Violin Concerto' is written in two contrasting movements, the first brisk and fiery, the second meditative and at peace. The first pits angry snippets of solo violin against abrasive orchestral noise. The second sounds like an alien landscape next to it, with extended, drone-like lines and a faraway, mysterious quality. Composer: Rebecca Saunders Performers: ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Symphony Orchestra Performer: Carolin Widmann (Violin) Conductor: Lionel Bringuier Recording date: 10 February 2012 Date of broadcast: 10 February 2012
