Prokofiev's First Piano Concerto is an incredibly short work, its single movement lasting only fifteen minutes. This is reflective of the fact that it was a homework assignment during the young composer's time at the St Petersburg Conservatoire. Despite its brevity, the concerto is full to the brim with a wide range of different musical ideas, which Prokofiev was skilled enough to work into a cohesive whole.
