There have been over 20 million reported cases and and three quarters of a million deaths from Covid-19 so far, but these narrow statistics fail to take account of the recovery time, which can be slow and marked by all sorts of complications even those for whom initial symptoms were mild. Some are calling this 'long Covid'. Nisreen Alwan, a specialist in public health at Southampton University, who herself has continued to experience symptoms after suspected Covid-19, explains why we could be building up a long-term health problems by not acknowledging a longer recovery time.
