Poland abortion ruling: Protests erupt over near-total ban

Newsday

Available for over a year

Women's rights activists are continuing to stage protests in Poland against a tightening of the nation's abortion law. The actions follow a ruling on Thursday by Poland's constitutional court that aborting foetuses with congenital defects was unconstitutional. Poland already had one of Europe’s most restrictive abortion laws, and the ruling will result in a near-complete ban on abortion. Lawyer and protestor Marta Gorcynska outlines what the ruling will mean for pregnant women. (Pic: Protest in Krakow against Poland’s Constitutional Tribunal; Credit: Reuters)
