Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world, straddles the border between Nepal and China. The two countries have now come out with a joint statement that the mountain is 86 cm (33.9 inches) higher than had been previously officially calculated. Until now the countries differed over whether to include the snow cap on top. The new height is 8,848.86 metres (29,032 ft).
