The Newsroom

Available for over a year

A year later than planned and despite an ongoing global pandemic, the torch relay for the delayed Tokyo Olympics finally got under way in Japan. Over the next four months the Olympic Torch will make its way from the icy north of Japan to the sub tropical islands in the far south, before arriving at the Tokyo Olympic stadium on 23 July. ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ correspondent Rupert Wingfield Hayes describes the torch's send off, and the growing opposition to this summer's Games owing to Covid infection rates and slow vaccine roll out.
