Indigenous in Brazil say palm oil pesticides making them sick

World Business Report

Available for over a year

Indigenous people in Brazil’s Amazon rainforest have long been fighting for their rights, traditions and land to be recognized by the government. When Jair Bolsonaro became president though, he encouraged agriculture and mining in the region, increasing tensions between industries and local people. One of those industries is the production of palm oil, which has expanded rapidly in recent years and is used in a wide variety of products including ice cream, shampoo and biofuel. Some though believe the pesticides used to produce palm oil is damaging their health. Benjie Guy has this extended report.
