Using sound to monitor the health of forests

Digital Planet

Available for over a year

Scientists are using machine learning to monitor the health of ecosystems through sound. From Okinawa in Japan to Borneo, they can listen to the sounds of the forest without having to be physically present. The noises contain useful information about the impact of humans on nature. Ecologist Samuel Ross from Trinity College Dublin and Dr Sarab Sethi from Imperial College London talk about the projects on which they are working.
