Why Mum's bed - and life - is moving downstairs

Andrew Edwards

Available for over a year

Mum's been struggling with her mobility for the last few months, as - increasingly - the brain can't tell the body what to do. The carers often find it hard to move her from bed (upstairs) into the bath or onto the stairlift to go downstairs. Two incidents in July, when paramedics were called, mean that the situation became more urgent. That led to an assessment by an occupational therapist. Her recommendation is that Mum's hospital style bed should be moved downstairs and that she's washed in a perching chair or in bed. For son Andrew it's just the latest sign of Mum's continuing decline. Mum and Me: The Dementia Diary was originally broadcast on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Leeds.
