Mum makes a good recovery in hospital - to the huge relief of son Andrew and the surprise of the doctors

Andrew Edwards

Available for over a year

Mum's been in hospital for almost two weeks after a gallstone went into her bile duct, causing her to be sick and then faint from the pain. She's very frail and doesn't understand what's happening. The doctors felt that an endoscopy would have been too traumatic and feared her heart (she has vascular dementia with Alzheimer's) wouldn't cope with an anaesthetic. Passing the stone naturally was therefore the best option, but unlikely. However that's just what happened, Mum makes a decent recovery and is again eating well. It's a huge relief for son Andrew after a period of emotional turmoil and almost daily journeys from Leeds to Hull, where Mum lives. He talks of his relief as Mum prepares to return home. Mum and Me: The Dementia Diary was originally broadcast on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Leeds.
