"I thought it was a practical joke" - Nobel Economics Prize winner 2021

World Business Report

Available for over a year

David Card was one of the 3 winners of the Nobel Prize in Economic Science this year. In the 1990s he showed that higher minimum wages don't necessarily lead to job losses, something that went against the mainstream view at the time. It's an issue that is still debated, not least in the US where a plan by Presidednt Biden to increase the nationwide minimum wage to $15 an hour has drawn criticism. Rob Young asked him how he found out that he had won this year's Nobel Prize. (Picture credit: University of California, Berkeley.)
