Walk With Amal in Oxford UK

Belongings

Available for over a year

You may have followed this art piece all about the story of a little girl, Amal - which means 'hopes' in Arabic, depicted as a puppet arrive into the UK via Folkestone, as part of a project called the Walk. At the heart of The Walk is 鈥楲ittle Amal鈥, a 3.5 metre-tall puppet of a young refugee girl, created by the acclaimed Handspring Puppet Company - who made the famous Warhorse puppet horse. Representing all displaced children, many separated from their families, Little Amal is travelling over 8,000km embodying the urgent message 鈥淒on鈥檛 forget about us鈥. and she has arrived in the UK. At this time of unprecedented global change, The Walk is an extraordinary artistic response: a cultural odyssey transcending borders, politics and language to tell a new story of shared humanity 鈥 and to ensure the world doesn鈥檛 forget the millions of displaced children, each with their own story, who are more vulnerable than ever during the global pandemic. Cad Taylor went across to Oxford on Tuesday to catch up with the project and meet some local people to hear their reactions and thoughts of the little girl arriving in their City.
