'Further restrictions may be necessary in the near future'

Paul Salt

Available for over a year

Boris Johnson's under pressure, after he suffered the biggest rebellion of Conservative MPs since becoming Prime Minister. Nearly a third of Tory backbenchers last night voted against the introduction of mandatory Covid passes in nightclubs and large venues in England. The new rules, which come into force today, are part of a series of 'Plan B' measures aimed at slowing the spread of the Omicron variant. But the government is hoping vaccines will be the main line of defence. It's hoped every adult will be able to book one by the end of the month. Nick Beeching, Emeritus Professor of Tropical and Infectious Diseases at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, explains why the third booster is needed.
