Hospital staff 'reduced to tears' by staff shortages

Paul Salt

Available for over a year

A new report is warning that plans to tackle record NHS waiting lists in England could be derailed by emergency care demands and a lack of staff. The cross-party Health and Social Care Committee of MPs says dealing with the wider backlog caused by the pandemic is an "unquantifiable" challenge as it includes all the people who have yet to come forward for treatment. It comes as the Royal College of Nursing has said their staff have been "reduced to tears" by staff shortages over the last few weeks. Their Director for England Patricia Marquis said the Government needs to be "honest" with the public about the pressure being put on the health service. Estephanie Dunn is the Regional Director of the RCN here in the North West.
