A rare smile from Mum, as son Andrew looks ahead to what 2022 may hold

Andrew Edwards

Available for over a year

Son Andrew looks ahead to what 2022 may hold for his Mum Carolyn. It's four years since her formal diagnosis of mixed dementia: Alzheimer's and vascular (which means blood flow to the brain is reduced). He gets a rare smile as chiropodist, Gill, cuts her hand and toe nails. But Mum is sleeping more and more and Andrew's worried about a painful pressure sore on her bottom, made worse because she's incontinent. It's a common problem for people, like her, who can't move. For the last three months she's been winched between bed and her reclining chair by the carers. Mum and Me: The Dementia Diary was originally broadcast on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Leeds.
