Czech singer dies after deliberately catching Covid

Available for over a year

A folk singer from the Czech Republic has died after deliberately catching Covid. Hana Horka, 57, was unvaccinated and died two days after posting on social media that she had tested positive. Her son said that she had got infected on purpose after he and his father had got infected, in order for her to get a recovery pass to access certain venues. Dr Maria Sundaram, an infectious disease epidemiologist at Marshfield Clinic Research Institute in Wisconsin, says that the story is "heartbreaking" as her son had not been able to persuade her to get vaccinated. She says that Hana had spoken of the freedom that having Covid would give her, but stresses that the vaccination not only gives you just as much freedom, but is a much safer route, and also provides the protection against new variants that natural occurring antibodies do not.
