Young people show their experience of the police through art

Coventry: UK City of Culture 2021

Available for over a year

“Honest, thought-provoking, and sometimes hard to hear.” That’s how one of our most senior officers describes a new art exhibition in Coventry, which examines the relationship between three of the city’s teenagers and West Midlands Police. Barriers to Bridges is the work of artist, Kay Rufai. For the past year, Kay has had access to police officers and staff. For months he has seen how they work as well as photographed and filmed their responses to the views of young people about policing while acting as the police force's artist in residence. The photographer, filmmaker and poet also spent time talking to young people in the city, working with them to capture their views. ѿý CWR's Nishal Chauhan spoke to Kay at the CVX Festival where artwork was on display
