Hear how Mum responds when son Andrew tells her a friend's about to arrive, bearing flowers

Andrew Edwards

Available for over a year

Son Andrew tells Carolyn that her friend Sue is about to arrive, bearing flowers. You can hear how she responds. They worked together for years, and Andrew is touched that she still visits regularly. He uses the opportunity of having someone else talking to Mum, and giving her drinks, to watch where her eyes are going. Over the next hour she looks at the spring flowers, moving in the wind outside the front window; the cards from her recent birthday; the checked napkin on her lap. As Sue prepares to leave, Mum gives her a lovely smile, reassuring Andrew that she still recognises important people from her past. But the visit leaves him tearful, contrasting the visitor's vitality with her much diminished friend. Mum and Me: The Dementia Diary was originally broadcast on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Leeds.
