Who will be the next Conservative party leader?

Sonia Watson

Available for over a year

Conservative MPs hoping to become their party's leader - and the next prime minister - have until the evening of Tuesday 12 July to muster enough support to officially join the contest.  They need at least 20 backers, under rules which were set out by the 1922 Committee of Tory backbenchers.  Eleven candidates, including the Saffron Walden MP Kemi Badenoch, have so far put themselves forward to replace Boris Johnson (correct as of 0800). More could enter the contest today, including the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Secretary and Witham MP Priti Patel. The party hopes to have a winner in place by the fifth of September So what do we know about the only Essex candidate so far, Kemi Badenoch? ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Essex speaks to Howard Rolfe, former leader of Uttlesford District Council and the chair of the Saffron Walden Conservative Association, as well as Sam Rosbottom from Betfair who explains what the odds are on the other runners and riders.
