The American actress Nichelle Nichols, who was famous for playing communications officer Lieutenant Uhura, in the original series of Star Trek, has died at the age of 89. She was one of the first black women to play a figure of authority on American television, and helped break down racial barriers for actors. Angela Pittas is a graphic designer, businesswoman and presenter on Gloucester FM. She grew up in the 70's and 80's and Uhura was a role model to her and the rest of her family.
