Why haven’t we figured out migraines yet?

The Conversation

Available for over a year

Sarah Shaw would have 20-25 days with migraine a month, once for two months straight. She lives in the United States and at one point after losing her job could no longer afford treatment. She says as a black woman her pain wasn’t always taken seriously and she was dismissed as a problem patient by some medics. She went online to ask advice and finally found a specialist who she felt understood the pain she was in and worked with her to find treatments that have reduced the attacks to 10-15 days a month. Sarah’s experience has led her to work in patient advocacy for Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour (BIPOC) patients, with the non-profit organization, the Global Healthy Living Foundation.
