Former MP helps 21,000 Ukrainian refugees

Ben Fryer

Available for over a year

The former Braintree MP Brooks Newmark took it upon himself to fly out to Ukraine and help save people when the Russians attacked in February 2022. His "Angels For Ukraine" movement saw him bussing Ukrainians out of the firing line to safer areas and, as of Christmas Day, he's managed to rescue 21,235 people, including more than 2,000 children. He's been described as a modern-day Oskar Schindler or Sir Nicholas Winton who both famously saved people at risk of being killed by the Nazis.
