Dorset charity worker's memories of baking a cake fit for a King

Steve Harris

Available for over a year

King Charles has many connections with Dorset - not just his housing development in Poundbury but also with a number of charities. One of those is Weldmar Hospicecare which provides end-of-life care, including at its in-patient unit in Dorchester. King Charles became the charity's patron in 1994 and even lent his architect to help design the hospice. Matt Smith is Weldmar's Chief Operating Officer. 16 years ago, he joined the organisation as an apprentice chef and, as our reporter Charlotte Foot has been finding out, it wasn't the start Matt expected.
