Wareham church rector 'not hopeful' stolen silverware will be returned

Steve Harris

Available for over a year

This next story could be straight out of a TV crime drama. A robbery in the dead of night, with thieves using drills, angle grinders and even explosives to steal priceless treasure. But it's exactly what happned at the Lady St Mary Church in Wareham. Thousands of pounds of silver has been stolen, including an Elizabethan chalice reported to be worth around £30 000. With no forensic evidence left at the scene, team rector at the church, Simon Everett, told Ollie Peart he's not optimistic the items will be recovered.
