Dáithí's Day: Organ donation law comes into effect

Good Morning Ulster

Available for over a year

The father of Dáithí Mac Gabhann, the six-year-old boy who inspired Northern Ireland's new organ donation law, says the opt-out system being introduced from today June the 1st 2023, will save lives. The legislation changes how consent is given for donors, although people can still choose to opt out and some, such as under 18s, are exempt. Máirtín Mac Gabhann told presenter Joel Taggart on Good Morning Ulster that it's been a long road to get to this point.
