Dorset primate rescue centre campaigning for stricter rules around monkey ownership
Steve HarrisAvailable for over a year
A Dorset ape centre - which has been rescuing primates from the British pet trade for more than 30 years - is welcoming a proposed change in the law. For decades, Monkey World near Wareham has been campaigning for stricter rules around primates being kept as pets. A public consultation is asking for people's views on new legislation, which would mean owners need a licence and must demonstrate "zoo-level standards". Our reporter Charlotte Foot has been to meet Steph Sawyer - head of small monkeys at Monkey World, who's overseen the rehabilitation of many of their residents.
