Shropshire to launch 'on demand' bus service

Available for over a year

Shropshire Council will launch its first ever 'on demand' bus service in December. Instead of sticking to original routes, buses will operate in zones - and residents can book a bus much like they would a taxi. Most councils launched them to plug gaps left by commercial operators who stepped away from services with low passenger numbers. However, concerns have been raised about the long-term viability of 'on demand' services - before the scheme in Shropshire even begins its trial period. Rob Trigg talks to all involved.
