Could a deepfake be used to steal your identity?

World Business Report

Available for over a year

As more businesses turn to online verification tools to check customers are who they say they are, fraudsters are using deepfake technology to create sophisticated disguises and hack into other people's accounts. Victims who find their identities stolen are often left feeling powerless. The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s Vivienne Nunis hears from one victim who was sent text messages from a hacker that contained photographs of his own ID cards, which were in his pocket at the time. And she visits the offices of one London-based firm trying to protect businesses and consumers from a growing army of digital identity thieves.
