Hereford hero doctor 'saved a patient on holiday'

Available for over a year

Dr Riaz, who works at Hereford County Hospital, reveals how he was called upon mid-flight to a passenger's aid, and was assisted by a smartwatch! Travelling to a skiing holiday in Italy, Rashid Riaz explains how he saved the life of a female passenger at 30,000 feet, and the role played by a crew member's Apple Watch. Dr Riaz is now calling on airlines to start carrying emergency physician kits as standard - including tools to take basic measurements, diabetic and blood pressure meters, and an oxygen saturation monitor. Apple says that measurements taken with the watch's Blood Oxygen app are not intended for medical use and are only designed for "general fitness and wellness purposes".
