In 1904, a group of people from Goldhanger near Maldon began searching for gold on a remote and uninhabited Norwegian island called Spitsbergen. David Newman is from the Goldhanger History Group and is the co-author of a book about Ernest Mansfield, who founded with three other local residents, the Northern Exploration Company.
