A hush-hush pipeline and the Isle of Wight

D-Day: Secret South England Stories

Available for over a year

Did you know that a massive bombproof pipeline went from the Isle of Wight to France to fuel the Allied frontline after D-Day? It was a huge technological innovation carried out by top wartime engineers in total secrecy. Even the pumping stations that were built on the Isle of Wight to send the fuel down the huge pipeline were hidden away from prying eyes - one was neatly tucked into an old ice cream parlour. Host: Sam Fraser Co-host: Steve Humphrey Speaker: Jasmine Sainsbury Producer: Luke de Costa Executive Producer: Ian Ramsdale Commissioning Editor: Alistair Miskin
