Abberton's Roman discovery

Secret Essex

Available for over a year

Evidence of settlements dating back 3,000 years were discovered near Abberton Reservoir. The finds include Roman coins and pottery from the Iron and Bronze Ages. They were unearthed by archaeologists digging ahead of the construction of a 19.5km (12-mile) water pipeline from Layer-de-la-Haye to Langford, near Maldon. Tim Haines, a senior archaeologist from engineering and design consultancy firm Stantec, explain the importance of what they found. (Picture credit: Oxford Archaeology)
