Kauli Vaast has gone from watching the Olympics with “stars in his eyes” to winning men's surfing gold on his Tahitian home waves at Teahupo'o. The 22-year-old won Olympic gold with a score of 17.67 to beat Australia’s Jack Robinson in the final – with the Paris 2024 surfing competition held nearly 16,000 kilometres (9,950 miles) from the French capital in Tahiti. After winning gold he travelled to Paris where he surfed along the River Seine and Vaast tells Sportsworld’s Delyth Lloyd all about that and his Olympic gold.
