Liam Payne: Fans mourn death of One Direction singer

Newsday

Available for over a year

Liam Payne, former member of the boy band One Direction, has died after falling from a third-floor hotel balcony in the Argentinian capital Buenos Aires. Crowds of fans gathered at the hotel for a candlelit vigil and to sing songs. The 31-year-old British singer rose to global fame in 2010 after being discovered on TV talent show The X Factor. Liam Payne was picked to form One Direction along with Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik. The boy band became one of the world's biggest groups, with number ones on both sides of the Atlantic, and the first boy band to gross over a billion dollars. The band broke up in 2015. Fan Amanda Kier lives in Buenos Aires and went to the hotel where Liam died to pay her respects. She explained why the singer was so special to her.
