Available for over a year
Discover the secret smuggling hideaway for Tudor-time Evesham monks, just off Bridge Street, underneath what is now Marilyn's Nightclub. The Vale of Evesham in the present day is known for its world famous asparagus, a chain ferry across the River Avon that’s been in use for nearly 1,000 years and its huge medieval battle re-enactment every year. But rewind the clock, and dig a few feet down, you could be interrupting monks smuggling contraband, potentially to the nearby Abbey. As Alistair Binney has been discovering, with local historian David Snowden. Image credit: Sam Benjamin/Marilyn's Nightclub
