The nearly 300-year-old building - one of the most striking in Worcester city centre - was once a workhouse, a hotel, and hosted Lord Nelson. It has been described as a monument to the prosperity of the city at the turn of the 20th century, and the importance of hops to trade in the faithful city. The visit of the Victorian Vice-Admiral also led to the renaming of Cooken Street, to Copenhagen Street, with Lord Nelson touring the country following his victory at the Battle of Copenhagen in 1802.
