It is a decision that no expectant couple want to face – that their unborn child has a life limiting health condition which means the baby won’t live to be born or will die shortly after birth. But in England and Wales each year, there are just over 3000 medical terminations due to foetal abnormalities, just over 1% of the total. In the NHS, foetal care team are responsible for dealing with such cases, specialists in genetic and chromosomal disorders. As you'd expect, the process for such abortions is meant to be highly regulated. But what if it goes wrong, if the advice to abort was a mistake, if the baby was actually healthy. For 5 Minutes On, the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s Michael Buchanan speaks to two couples about the advice they received to abort their healthy babies, and what happened next.
