St. Hugh's swan: Lincoln's other famous emblem
Available for over a year
Lincoln is well-known for its Imp, but the city has another often-overlooked symbol with connections to the famous cathedral. Hugh of Lincoln, the 12th-Century bishop who began the construction of the cathedral as we know it and who was later made a saint, befriended a fierce wild swan which later became his loyal pet at the bishops' palace at Stow. The swan became the emblem of St. Hugh, and in turn the emblem of the city.
