Make a Difference: Hampshire, Dorset and IoW

Available for over a year

A team of DIY enthusiasts who set up a group to fix household items and save them from going to landfill is preparing to expand after winning a ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Solent Make a Difference Award. Winchester Repair Cafe was the winner of the green category at the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Solent Make A Difference Awards, held in September. Stuart King, one of the trustees, said winning had made an "amazing" difference to the charity. The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Solent Make a Difference Awards celebrate people who are going above and beyond to make a difference where we live. Repair Café Winchester won the Green Award in 2024 and has saved 1500kg of household items from ending up in landfill. Ali Cochrane from the Repair Café speaks with ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Solent's Rick Jackson. Nominations are open for the 2025 ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Solent Make a Difference Awards, they close on the 31st March at 5pm. For a full list of categories - and details of how to nominate someone - go to bbc.co.uk/makeadifference, where you can also see full Terms and our Privacy Notice. The winners will be announced at our Make a Difference awards ceremony in September.
