Dorchester businesses react to high street reopening

Available for over a year

On the 9th of December, Dorchester woke to the news that a beloved café on the high street had burned down. The Gorge Cafe, along with the surrounding buildings on South Street were devastated by fire and the pedestrianised road has been closed in that area to protect the public and allow contractors to secure the building. This limited access to a number of businesses, given that shoppers could not walk the length of the high street, but on the 11th of April a passage has opened to allow pedestrians through. Michael Quinn runs Quinn's Butcher in Hardye Arcade, which was sealed off from South Street. Harry Kille-Smith reports.
