"The day at Belsen was the most horrible of my life"

Available for over a year

80 years ago British troops liberated the Nazi concentration camp, Bergen-Belsen, where an estimated 70,000 people died. It was a shocking and unforgettable day for the soldiers involved, including Gunner Herbert Hurst from Rawtenstall, who was part of the 63rd anti-tank regiment. Herbert died in 1995 at the age of 86, but his daughter Barbara was a teacher in Bury when she recorded her dad's memories of Belsen. Barbara's been telling ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Manchester about her dad's experience.
