Colossal squid discovered by Essex scientists

Available for over a year

A colossal squid has been filmed in its natural environment for the first time since the species was discovered 100 years ago. The 30cm-long mollusc was recorded during an expedition led by a University of Essex academic, in a remote and largely unexplored part of the south Atlantic Ocean, at a depth of almost two-thousand feet. Nonny Scott is a PhD student at the University of Essex and was part of the expedition... Picture credit: ROV SuBastian / Schmidt Ocean Institute.
