Ross-on-Wye’s world famous glam rockers

Secret Herefordshire

Available for over a year

Discover the riverside roots of Mott The Hoople's Dale Griffin and Pete Overend Watts. Both grew up around Ross-on-Wye, the town putting on a festival in their honour. The relatives of the drummer and bassist of one of Herefordshire's greatest music exports tell Kate Justice about storming local talent shows, and when Martin Chambers from The Pretenders stepped in on drums once. Mott The Hoople signed to Island Records with their self-titled debut album becoming a great success in 1969. Their track written with David Bowie, 1972’s All The Young Dudes, took them to #3 in the charts. Image credit: Getty Images/Gems/Redferns
