Since Covid, our schools have seen more children struggling to cope with their first years in education - whether it's struggling to speak, or arriving in nappies. Now the government says it's tackling the problem by investing 1.5 billion pounds. There'll be more specialist nursery teachers in the region, and extra community support with new family hubs offering parenting support and youth services will be rolled out across every local authority. Conservatives say teachers are being asked to act as parents. One school in Middlesbrough that has successfully tackled some of these problems is Ayresome Primary. Amy Oakden spoke to Becki Le, the assistant headteacher and early years lead.
