Meet Watson, a finalist for the Make a Difference Animal Award 2025. Watson, a hearing dog, has transformed the life of his partner Karen, who was born with almost no hearing. Since arriving in December 2023, Watson has become her constant companion and support. At home, he alerts her to the cooker timer, smoke alarm, doorbell, and other important sounds, giving her confidence to sleep safely and move around independently. Watson also accompanies Karen to her Liverpool primary school, where he supports her daily and brings joy to the children. He has even helped during emergencies, nudging Karen to alert her when the fire alarm went off. Karen says Watson is her “real-life superhero,” and the children celebrate him too, stroking him as a reward for good behaviour.
