One Eyed Jack: The Pup Nobody Wanted
Make a Difference: MerseysideAvailable for over a year
Meet One Eyed Jack, a finalist for the Make a Difference Animal Award 2025. One Eyed Jack, a blue merle border collie with only one eye, has spent the past six years bringing comfort and joy to patients, staff, and visitors at the hospital. He visits the High Dependency Unit, attends staff functions like preceptorship events, and joins Spinal Unit parties, helping people relax and smile. His calm, gentle nature immediately puts people at ease, and his unique appearance sparks conversation and connection. During lockdown, One Eyed Jack even visited the staff garden so employees could safely interact with him and de-stress. Now 12 years old, One Eyed Jack is retiring from his therapy dog role, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, comfort, and happiness.
