Jo Malone grew up in Bexleyheath in south-east London. She‘s dyslexic and struggled with education, leaving school as a teenager to care for her mum after she had a stroke. Jo’s perfumery business started at a kitchen table, with just four plastic jugs for her equipment. She had a skincare clinic at the time and made her clients body lotions and bath oils to thank them for coming. When one of her clients bought 100 bottles in a single day she knew she could turn this into a business. In 1994 the first Jo Malone London store opened on Walton Street in Chelsea. Five years later the company sold to Estee Lauder for undisclosed millions. Jo Malone CBE revealed her favourite haunts, memories, pet hates and everything in between with Robert Elms. This interview was first broadcast in June 2019.
