Jeremy Bowen: Chances of peace in the Middle East

Today

Available for over a year

Reports suggest aid trucks are being stalled at Gaza's border due to the failure of Hamas to return the remaining bodies of hostages. Tom Fletcher, the UN's humanitarian chief, has urged both ISrael and Hamas to work sides to get the border open, saying it is “essential for our work and we’re asking that all the crossings reopen so that we can better scale up and get thousands of trucks into Gaza every week and start to turn this situation around." This latest impasse is one in a long line of moments where hope of peace seems incredibly fragile - and the gap between the two sides as great as ever. That long history is something that International Editor Jeremy Bowen has been reflecting on. Listen to Today on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio 4 and ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Sounds: 6-9am on weekdays and 7-9am on Saturdays.
