An inquiry’s been launched into a now-collapsed spy case. The CPS dropped the case after deciding the evidence did not show China was a threat to national security. Witness statements from a senior security adviser say the Chinese are carrying out spying operations against the UK. The Conservatives say the government allowed the case to collapse to avoid jeopardising economic relations with China. This is firmly denied by the government, who blame the previous Tory administration who were in charge when the first evidence statement was made. China's foreign ministry says they are “very clear: we firmly oppose peddling China spy narratives and vilifying China”. Is China our friend or enemy? Nicky heard from UK listeners.
